And a video taken from our balcony during totality:

The “Great American Eclipse” is on August 21st, 2017! This is a complete solar eclipse, and the center line of darkness (longest period of coverage of the sun by the moon) is passing through Gallatin, TN. Here at our house, complete darkness will last for 2 minutes and 37 seconds.
Since we have a resident Astronomer here at Montpere (1049 Hillview Drive, Hendersonville TN), Dr. Tim Farris, we are offering a couple of Eclipse events. Everyone is invited!
On Sunday, August 20th, at 3:00 p.m. we will be hosting an education/information event about the eclipse. Tim will explain what will be happening during the eclipse with the sun and the moon, some of the history around solar eclipses, as well as how and what you should be looking for on Monday. We will also provide you with glasses for viewing the eclipse! Just let us know if you plan to be here and how many in your group so that we can plan for glasses and parking by clicking here: https://goo.gl/forms/hNe2rCSuzwJWnqGO2 If you can’t make it on Sunday, but want the info, we hope to have a recording of the event to post and/or share. Watch your email and/or social media for a link.
On Monday, August 21st, (Eclipse Day!) we are opening up our yard and home for anyone who wants to come view the eclipse. There will be a couple of telescopes set up, and assuming the weather is good, we should be able to see for many miles. We anticipate being able to see the shadow of the eclipse move across middle Tennessee! While it will be dark for a couple of minutes here (with stars) we should be able to see where it is not dark to the south of Nashville. The moon starts moving in front of the sun at around noon with complete darkness at 1:27 pm. The shadow from the moon should completely end around 3 pm. We anticipate the traffic moving toward Gallatin from Nashville to be heavy that morning, so come as early as you would like. There will be some bagels and lots of coffee available in the morning. Bring a lawn/camp chair or blanket. Since this event occurs over the lunch hour, we will have a pot luck lunch available. So, bring a dish/recipe/food to share. We will have lots of water bottles and fruit tea! Once again, let us know if you are coming, so that we can plan for parking by clicking here: https://goo.gl/forms/hNe2rCSuzwJWnqGO2
WE ARE SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT AND HOPE TO SEE YOU!

Tim and Angie Farris
